Speaking Up Can Shake the Room

Have you ever had that moment when you finally speak up, and the room feels like it’s holding its breath? Maybe it wasn’t an earth-shattering statement, but for you, it was a turning point—a decision to no longer stay silent.

That’s where I found myself recently.

It started with a major accomplishment, something I hadn’t planned for or even imagined doing. It was a leap of faith into a new venture. I had no roadmap, no mentor, just a determination to figure it out along the way. And I did.

I’ve always been a “figure it out” kind of person—learning as I go, leveraging what I know to close the gaps. Saying “yes” to this opportunity was challenging but rewarding, and I felt like I’d just won the lottery.

But life has a funny way of balancing victories with challenges.

Right when I was in celebration mode, a different situation forced me to step out of my comfort zone in another way. I had to use my voice to call out an injustice. And let me tell you—using your voice, especially when you’ve stayed silent for so long, can certainly shake things up.

When you decide to use your voice, not everyone will applaud. People get comfortable when you’re quiet, when you don’t challenge the status quo. But the moment you speak up—when you call out unfair treatment or demand accountability—it’s like flipping a switch.

Some may respond with excuses or even spiteful actions. That’s because they’re not used to this new version of you, the one who’s unafraid to stand up for what’s right. And yes, it can feel messy and uncomfortable, but it’s also powerful.

Remember, your voice matters, and you should not let anything hold it back.
